Lasko 5365 30-Inch Digital Space-Saving Ceramic Pedestal Heater Review

My wife and I needed a little extra heat in our bedroom.  After some research we decided to get the Lasko 5365 30-Inch Digital Space-Saving Ceramic Pedestal Heater with Remote Control. The pedestal shape is the thing that really attracted my wife to this particular model.  I like that you can choose between low and high comfort settings, as well as have a programmable thermostat control option for added efficiency. There’s an eight hour timer that makes sure the machine gets turned off just in case we forget to do it ourselves.  The self regulating ceramic element comes with overheat protection to make sure no disasters get started.  As an added bonus the unit comes with a remote control, which is a huge blessing on chilly nights when neither of us wants to get out of bed to change the settings. I’ve been very pleased with the way this heater has worked this winter – it’s simple but effective.

Pros:

  • High and Low Settings: Both the low and high settings run at different power levels and fan speeds.  The low setting is more efficient, running at 900 watts, while the high speed (1500 watts) has a bit more oomph.  The fan runs slower or faster according to which level you’re at, which is a nice bonus.  This makes the low setting very quiet, which is nice.
  •

  • Thermostat Control: The automatic thermostat control lets you decide what temperature the heater will keep the room at.  From the little tests I’ve done it seems that the thermostat is very accurate.  When you run the heater on this setting you don’t have the option of using the low power level, only the high.

  • Remote Control: I’d like to say that this wasn’t a factor in my choosing this machine, but in reality I think it’s a nice bonus.  I hate having to get out of bed to change the settings on a heater, so having a remote on hand makes life a little bit better.  Not the most important aspect of the heater, but not something to ignore, either.
  •

  • Overheat Protection and Timer: I do worry about what would happen if a heater gets left on for too long, which is why I was pleased to see this model came with an eight hour timer. I can set it turn off halfway through the night so we don’t wake up sweltering.  In case that isn’t enough, the ceramic element also comes with overheat protection, so there’s not much of a chance of a fire or any other problems.

Cons:

  • Can’t Use Low Setting with Thermostat: When you let the automatic thermostat take over you lose the option to run the machine on the low setting.  This makes things a little less efficient (and a little noisier).  However, it does heat up a room much more efficiently that way, and definitely makes things more comfortable, so I’m willing to deal with it.
  •

  • Bright Display: The display that shows the thermostat temperature is a little bit brighter than I would like.  It shows up pretty brightly in a dark bedroom, which can get a little annoying at times.  However, if I need to change the settings in the middle of the night I can see it across the room, so I’m willing to put up with it.

Since we’re started using this space heater our bedroom has been a much more comfortable place.  The low and high settings make it very efficient, the programmable thermostat is easy to use, and the safety features make me comfortable using it in my home. The remote control is a nice touch, and the pedestal shape makes sure it doesn’t take up too much space.  If you’re looking to add a space heater to your current heating scheme, you really can’t go wrong with this model.
